With the recent release of HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX – Smiths Detection’s latest checkpoint scanner the adoption of CT technology at airport checkpoints is imminent. What must come next, however, is relentless effort and true industry leadership.

To achieve mission success, we must continue to strive to understand the dynamic global environments of customers, and specifically, work hand-in-hand with regulators and airports, to meet both security and operational requirements. For example, HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX has been designed to have the same length footprint as a HI-SCAN 6040aTiX thus requiring no conveyor reconfiguration. In other words, Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX is virtually a drop-in replacement to the checkpoint space occupied by the current X-ray model. This will be key to enabling a seamless and less-costly integration of CT technology at the checkpoint.
Trials too, are crucial to ensure CT capability, performance and productivity benefits are met and can be implemented. This process will require time, different CONOPS and training. In the meantime, Smiths Detection has provided a software upgrade, available today, for existing HI-SCAN 6040aTiX x-ray systems allowing them to remain fully functional at the checkpoint while CT technology is being tested and installed.
