Smiths Detection’s global presence, combined with strong relationships with distributors and representatives, provides customers with sales and service support around the world. We have manufacturing facilities established in France, Germany, Malaysia, the UK and USA, with some of these also serving as R&D centres of excellence. Sales and Service centres in 17 countries to provide global coverage.
The senior management team of Smiths Detection reflects the international organisation, with a strong group of experienced managers heading regional operations that serve our key markets and a skilled central team responsible for the main functional activities.
Roland has been with Smiths Group for 27 years, holding numerous roles within the business. He was appointed as Smiths Detection President in February 2018, in addition to his role as President, Asia Pacific for Smiths Group. Prior to this, he was Managing Director for Smiths Connectors for ten years, before becoming President, Smiths Interconnect in 2014.
Roland is a Chartered Engineer, holding both a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and Master’s degree in electronics. He has worked and lived in France, Germany and Slovenia, as well as working extensively in the USA and Asia, in a broad range of roles servicing varied industries.
Tony Tielen was appointed regional VP for Europe, Middle East and Africa in May 2015. He was previously with Honeywell where he held various general management and senior sales roles, most recently as VP for the Engineered Field Solutions business.
Jerome joined Smiths Detection as General Manager for India operations in 2016, before being appointed Vice President APAC region in 2018. Jerome’s career has seen him work across the US, EMEA and APAC regions, gaining significant experience in strategy, innovation and growth acceleration.
Shan Hood was appointed President, Americas in November 2017, having been Vice President, Product & Technology for Smiths Detection since 2014. He had joined Smiths Group division Flex-Tek in 1986 as a mechanical engineer and was appointed general manager of its Industrial division in 1994. He subsequently held the role of VP – Sales & Marketing for Flex-Tek before becoming VP – Business Development where he was responsible for the development of Flex-Tek’s strategic goals, vision and growth.

Matt Clark joined Smiths Detection in 2003, being appointed Vice President, Technology in November 2017. He has extensive experience in technology and product development, and project management. Prior to joining Smiths Detection, Matt had a 7 year career in the Australian Navy as an Electronics Engineer.
Henrik Akerson joined Smiths Detection in August 2016 as Vice President of Global Operations. Immediately prior to joining Detection, he worked at Gardner Denver Inc.as operations director for the EMEA region. Previously he worked for IMI plc and held a number of roles spanning operations and business development. Henrik is an expert in production, quality management logistics and manufacturing engineering.
Kini Pathmanathan joined Smiths Detection in April 2017 as Vice President of Human Resources. She had previously worked at Thales where she held a number of senior HR roles, most recently as Vice President of Human Resources for their UK business.
Since 2006 Alain has held a number of positions within Smiths Group before being appointed the Chief Financial Officer in August 2017. Prior to joining Smiths Group, Alain worked for 9 years at British Airways.
Adam Ramsay was appointed Divisional General Counsel in May 2015. Before that he had been General Counsel at Edwards Group, a NASDAQ-listed semiconductor manufacturer. Adam has held senior in-house roles in a number of public and private equity owned businesses in a variety of sectors including oil and gas, engineering and outsourcing.
