Roland has been with Smiths Group for 27 years, holding numerous roles within the business. He was appointed as Smiths Detection President in February 2018, in addition to his role as President, Asia Pacific for Smiths Group. Prior to this, he was Managing Director for Smiths Connectors for ten years, before becoming President, Smiths Interconnect in 2014.
Roland is a Chartered Engineer, holding both a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and Master’s degree in electronics. Tony Tielen was appointed regional Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa in May 2015. In 2019, Tony took on the role of Vice President Marketing in addition to retaining his role of Vice President for Europe and Africa. Jerome joined Smiths Detection as General Manager for India operations in 2016, before being appointed Vice President APAC region in 2018, and Middle East in 2019. Shan Hood was appointed President, Americas in November 2017, having been Vice President, Product & Technology for Smiths Detection since 2014. He had joined Smiths Group division Flex-Tek in 1986 as a mechanical engineer and was appointed general manager of its Industrial division in 1994. He subsequently held the role of VP – Sales & Marketing for Flex-Tek before becoming VP – Business Development where he was responsible for the development of Flex-Tek’s strategic goals, vision and growth.

James Down was appointed Divisional General Counsel in May 2021. He joined Smiths in December 2016 as Head of M&A Legal and in April 2018 assumed the role of General Counsel, Corporate.
James started his career in the London office of the international law firm, Lovells and, prior to joining Smiths, held senior legal roles at SABMiller plc. Mark joined Smiths Detection as Vice President Global Service in April 2021. Mark joined from Bombardier Transportation where he lead their service business across EMEA and India. Before that he spend 15 years at Honeywell in various general management positions across their Transportation Controls divisions. He was a VP GM for their combustion business and lead the post merger integration of the Smart Energy business after the acquisition of Elster.
