Smiths Detection’s first checkpoint scanner to feature computed tomography (CT) offers improved productivity, higher throughput and lower costs – which will benefit both airport operators and passengers.
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX has gained European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Explosive Detection System (EDS) CB C2 approval and testing for C3 is now under way. It has also achieved TSL Advanced Technology (AT-2) Tier II certification from the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
This CT scanner addresses the three critical issues for airport operators: security, efficiency and the passenger experience.
It gets rid of the need to remove electronic devices from hand luggage (subject to approval from the appropriate local authorities). This will reduce the number of trays per person and make the whole process simpler and shorter – a move that is sure to please the travelling public.
Baggage contents are examined from every angle and 3D images are generated with very precise data, so that more accurate judgements can be made on the nature of materials and substances within the bag.
