Smiths Detection to supply Florida with GasID units to enhance Hazmat response capabilities

Smiths Detection has received an order from the State of Florida for 15 of its GasID portable gas and vapor chemical identifiers to help strengthen its first responder capabilities.

The units will be distributed to county and city HAZMAT teams across Florida, enhancing local response capabilities and expanding the network of more than a dozen GasID units already in use throughout the state.

Randolph K. Jordan, Assistant Chief of the City of Fort Myers Fire Department said: “The inclusion of this technology in our equipment cache will greatly enhance each team’s ability to detect and identify unknown gases and vapors. With this purchase we have added to the capabilities necessary to protect our State and help ensure a safe environment for our citizens and visitors.”

GasID is a ruggedized portable system that identifies suspect gases and vapors in minutes, giving HAZMAT response teams critical information about the presence of potential dangers. GasID also operates in extreme conditions, including intense heat and humidity.

Lance Roncalli, Smiths Detection’s Managing Director and Vice President of Sales, Americas, said: “First responders choose GasID because it rapidly provides critical information about threats, strengthening their ability to make informed decisions on how to best protect themselves and any community at risk.
