Smiths Detection Inc. today hosted Maryland’s Secretary of Department of Business & Economic Development (DBED), Dominick Murray, and local suppliers at its U.S. headquarters in Edgewood, MD, to mark National Manufacturing Day. The event is the first of its kind in Maryland to support the annual celebration which aims to raise awareness of the importance of American manufacturing.
Secretary Murray visited Smiths Detection Inc.’s manufacturing facility where a diverse range of local suppliers had been invited to meet and potentially develop new, regional business partnerships. Smiths Detection Inc. worked with his department and the Office of Strategic Industry and Innovation to organize the event.
“Our investments in research and development and in workforce – coupled with tax credits and other resources – help ensure that Maryland’s long tradition of manufacturing continues well into the future,” said DBED Secretary Murray. “We’re very proud that Smiths Detection Inc. plays such an important role in the safety and security of our nation, and calls Maryland home. Today’s event highlights the partnerships that are so critical to their success as a company and our success as a state.”
Terry Gibson, President, Smiths Detection Inc., added: “We are committed to building opportunities with Maryland suppliers to support the exponential growth in leading edge manufacturing which has greatly benefited the economy and local community. I would like to thank the county, state and Department of Business & Economic Development for supporting National Manufacturing Day.”
