Smiths Detection today announces a contract with Luxembourg Customs to supply a mobile X-ray cargo scanner for deployment at its headquarters and various checkpoints around the country.
The HCVM™ will be used to check vehicles for hidden weapons, explosives, narcotics and contraband, and to help in the fight against tax fraud. It is also fitted with ARD (Automated Radioactive material Discrimination) for the detection of radioactive threats and DMS, a data management system that can transmit and store images for analysis.
The high-energy system, capable of inspecting up to 25 trucks per hour, can penetrate steel 320mm thick to provide a detailed X-ray image that distinguishes organic and inorganic materials.
