X-ray technology is used globally to deter the carriage of guns, knives and other weapons or illegal items on aircraft, inside buildings and at other sensitive locations.

Around 60,000 X-ray inspection systems have been supplied by Smiths Detection, in more than 150 countries. Thay have enhanced security by screening mail, baggage, merchandise, containers and trucks for government departments, transport authorities, airlines, industrial and commercial companies, prisons, courts and service providers.

Additional technologies are applied to screen people for dangerous items concealed by their clothing, ranging from traditional but highly sensitive metal detection arches and wands, to the latest development in millimeter-wave technology - eqo.
