Smiths Detection Integrates SmartTech® with HI-SCAN X-Ray Screening Systems to Offer 24/7 Access to Detection Experts for Suspicious Package Resolution

Pine Brook, NJ, 19 July 2005 - Smiths Detection, the world’s leading provider of trace detection and x-ray security screening equipment, has entered into a relationship with Michael Stapleton Associates (MSA), the industry’s premier explosive detection security company. MSA is the manufacturer of SmartTech®, which utilizes high-speed, two-way video and audio system for remote bomb-detection verification. Smiths Detection’s SmartTech®-enabled HI-SCAN X-ray machines support security screeners with immediate threat analysis and consultation.

Screeners using Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN X-ray systems equipped with SmartTech® can instantly transmit suspect images of possible threats to the MSA Command Center in New York City. MSA bomb technicians, who are on alert 24/7, analyze the images and provide immediate interpretation and verification in real-time.

MSA bomb technicians include experts from elite law enforcement agencies such as the NYPD Bomb Squad. MSA bomb technicians have specific training in x-ray interpretation to identify improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and are graduates of the FBI Hazardous Device School (HDS).
