French Senate Conference

Representatives of the French Senate and the Government were among the leading figures who attended a conference that focused on passenger and cargo screening, in January 2010.
Sponsored by Smiths Detection, the Paris conference considered the current security safeguards in airports and at the borders, plus the future threats likely to face the civil aviation sector. These were discussed in the context of current legislative measures, both at European and French level, and the effects on passengers and freight control techniques and concepts.
The second part of the conference was dedicated to operational requirements for the latest technologies in equipment from by the security industry. This was particularly relevant to the representatives from airports, airports unions and customs organisations who attended alongside the government representatives.

European Security Forum, Brussels

On 23 September 2009 Smiths Detection sponsored a high level European Security Forum at the Stanhope Hotel in Brussels.  The event brought together decision-makers and the private sector in an important debate on Europe’s rapidly changing security requirements.

The discussions embraced security in our everyday lives, in vulnerable sectors such as civil aviation transportation, and in preparation for special situations or events such as the 2012 London Olympics. A large focus of the forum was advanced technology, now available and being developed, to counteract a wide variety of threats and to equip our front line forces adequately.  

The event also marked the inauguration of Smiths Detection’s new global Government Relations office in Brussels. This is headed by Magnus Ovilius, VP Government Relations, with Caroline Persson co-ordinating EMEA Government Relations. [Locaton details  - more]

Investor Day, Wiesbaden, Germany, 27 January 2009

  • Smiths hosted a visit to its Wiesbaden facility to enable investors and financial analysts to take a close look at Smiths Detection. The presentation outlined the business strategy for the business and examined some of the dynamics and drivers of future growth.
