Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV)
The FMDV virus is a highly infectious virus capable of spreading at alarming rates. The virus group is comprised of 7 serotypes (A, C, O, Asia 1, SAT 1, SAT 2 and SAT 3). The FMDV assay we have developed has been designed as a Pan-FMDV assay capable of picking up the currently circulating strains of the above serotypes. The LATE-PCR chemistry used is exclusively available to Smiths Detection, and the FMDV LATE-PCR assay will be available at the launch of the instrument.

Avian Influenza and Newcastle’s Disease
This assay leverages the benefits of the LATE-PCR chemistry to deliver a highly multiplexed Avian Influenza assay capable of distinguishing highly pathogenic H5N1 from other H5N1 strains or other Avian Influenza Subtypes in a single test. Combined with this is the ability to identify the presence of Newcastle’s disease virus. For the first time a single test is capable of identifying a number of notifiable infectious diseases of poultry in a single test in the field, a capability that is currently only available as multiple separate tests in the lab.
