The GID-M chemical agent detector is designed to detect, identify, record and transfer data of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) to operators, and to battlefield information and management systems.
A variant was developed for the UK MOD, the Manportable Chemical Agent Detector (MCAD) programme. Using enhanced IMS technology to offer the advantages of high sensitivity and interference rejection.
Developed to provide the most advanced field detection and assessment capability available, the GID-M can be used in a variety of roles:-
• Man portable within its carry case.
• Stationary in a ColPro facility.
• Vehicle mounted using a purpose designed mounting frame.
• Network enabled either at a fixed site or standalone.
The system operates via a menu driven display, which provides the operator with a clear indication of the chosen mode and operational settings as follows: -
• Normal detection (for high concentrations of CWAs)
• High sensitivity detection (for low concentrations CWAs)
• Toxic Industrial Chemical detection (TICs)
• Ship operation (for operation in specific chemical environments).
• Collective training (when all the detection capability is disabled).
The GID-M provides the lowest possible false positive rates, the maximum detection capability and the ability to identify the specific agents programmed at miosis levels. The easy to read display, with NVG capability, can be operated by an operator in full IPE. Data can be communicated via RS485 interface in NATO format to Battlefield Information & Management systems.
