Recent events highlight the escalating threat of terrorist activities involving biological weapons of mass destruction.
Bioterrorism and biological warfare pose both physical and psychological threats to military and civilian forces, as well as civilian populations.
Detection systems employed to counter these threats must identify dangerous bacterial and viral pathogens against an already complex environmental background.
These critical test results must be obtained quickly and accurately to ensure that rapid and appropriate countermeasures can be introduced.
A key feature of Bio-Seeq PLUS™ is its ease of use by first responders at an incident. The unit contains a membrane keyboard with extra large keys allowing the unit to be used with protective gloves. Operation of the unit is easy even for an inexperienced operator.
Bio-Seeq PLUS is an enhanced version of the original Bio-Seeq™ with improved reliability and capability for the identification of Biological Warfare Agents using a Smiths proprietary of the LATE PCR (Linear After The Exponential Polyerase Chain Reaction).
The Bio-Seeq PLUS includes the following design and operation improvements:
• New thermocycler heater for greater reliability and temperature stability
• New keyboard for greater reliability and ease of use
• Internal battery can be re-charged whilst in use, utilising an external power supply
• External power compatible with European and USA voltages
The Bio-Seeq PLUS uses Smiths proprietary LATE PCR chemistry. The new PCR chemistry results in improved reproducibility of assay results. The assays also utilise Smiths PCR enhancement reagent known as PrimeSafe™ which virtually eliminates mispriming.
Assays available:
• Anthrax pX01 and Anthrax pX02
• Tularemia
• Plague
• Orthopox
• Training consumable
Bio-Seeq, Bio-Seeq PLUS and PrimeSafe are trade marks of Smiths Detection
