Advanced Infrared Analysis Training Course
The Smiths Detection Advanced Infrared Analysis training course is an 8 hour class delivered by expert trainers in HazMat chemistry and IR field analysis. It is intended for HazMatID, GasID and TravelIR users who want more out of their instruments than a library search alone can provide. The course compliments, but does not replace, the Smiths Detection ReachBack spectral interpretation service. Instead, students of this course will be better prepared to answer the question, “What Now?” while waiting for expert help with difficult unknowns.
Key topics include:
- Principles of basic chemistry
- Chemical families and their hazards
- Salts and Non-Salts
- Hydrocarbons
- Hydrocarbon derivatives
- WMDs
- Spectral regions of chemical family functional groups
- Practical, systematic approach to spectral analysis
- Example analyses of “real world” spectra
- Hands-on exercises with real unknown samples and spectra
- Handouts and take-aways to help apply knowledge in the field
Prerequisites: Smiths Detection recommends that students of this advanced course meet the following criteria to realize the maximum benefits of the course objectives:
1. Working knowledge of TravelIR or HazMatID
o Smiths Detection / SensIR Technologies basic user training
o At least 90 days of field experience after initial training
2. Understanding of basic chemistry language
o Chemical family functional group nomenclature
o As defined by NFPA 472-6.2.2.2
