In today’s surveillance environment armies are no longer targeted exclusively; terrorists are now focusing on public infrastructure and civilian populations in order to disrupt economies and effect morale. The need to protect buildings and provide on-site surveillance for large public gatherings has become paramount.

Smiths Detection-LiveWave has identified a surveillance requirement that must be rapidly deployable and able to secure locations that are not covered by fixed video surveillance neworks.

The solution is RoverCam, a fully self-contained mobile surveillance platform that provides provides critical, real-time video communications and improved situational awareness for First Responders, Mobile Command Centers (MCC) and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC).

FirstView® and RoverCam; are in use by many city and Federal agencies. They have been successfully deployed at high-profile public events, including the Boston Red Sox World Series and New England Patriots Superbowl victory celebrations, the 2005 Presidential Inauguration and State of the Union Address, and the 2005 Academy Awards®.

Based on Smiths Detection- LiveWave’s proven FirstView® technology, RoverCamTM is a complete turnkey software and hardware solution. It consists of a laptop computer and an exterior-mounted, hardwired PTZ camera controlled via a 3-axis hardware joystick attached to the laptop.

Video and camera control are relayed using a combination of public and private networks using encrypted wireless systems and secure WiFi hotspots. The laptop is equipped with a DVD recorder for recording video as well as a spare hot-swappable hard drive used when forensic analysis must be accomplished at a different location

First Responders can also use Smiths Detection-LiveWave’s MobilePC on handheld computers to access RoverCam’s video for improved situational awareness while enroute to developing crises.

The FirstView® Enterprise Server repeats video signals from RoverCam, allowing hundreds of users to ability to access the data, live or on-demand
