Feature Highlights

  • Confirms ID of 10 bio agents & simulants in under 15 minutes
  • IDs up to 5 agents per test strip with only 100 uL of sample fluid
  • Eliminates false negatives due to Hook Effect
  • Assays have 2 year shelf life over a wide temperature range
  • Easy-to-use reader even in poor lighting while wearing PPE

NIDS (Nano Intelligent Detection System) bio-threat detection system offers a transformational advance in immunoassay technology in virtually every aspect of performance, reliability and value — a true ‘best in class’ solution now available globally through Smiths Detection.

NIDS is the first truly multiplexed Handheld Assay (HHA) on the market, with each HHA test strip simultaneously testing for up to 5 bio agents from just 100 microliters of sample solution.

NIDS utilizes unique nano-manipulation technology to orient all active antibodies for maximum sensitivity and to virtually eliminate ‘Hook Effect’ which can cause false negative readings when testing very concentrated bio agent samples. By eliminating Hook Effect, NIDS eliminates the need to run serial dilutions on multiple assays to ensure that HHA results are reliable.

The NIDS handheld reader is a palm-sized, portable, ruggedized optical scanning device that takes all of the guess work out of interpreting HHA results by different responders in field conditions with poor lighting and limited visibility while wearing PPE. The reader stores up to 3,000 test results, including a preserved scanned image of each test, on a microSD disc. It can be powered by 3 AA alkaline batteries, from mains power or from a laptop PC via mini‑USB connection. NIDS SAR III PC software provided with the system allows user to manage data, update firmware and change settings using the NIDS stand-alone reader PC software.

The NIDS bio-threat detection system is backed by first class service, training and support to ensure optimum product performance.

Smiths Detection is a leading global provider of advanced security solutions and government regulated technology products that detect and identify chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) materials and other dangerous or illegal substances.

NIDS handheld bio-threat commercial assays are currently available to identify: Bacillus anthracis (Ba), Yersinia pestis (Yp), Franciscella tularensis (Ft). Vaccinia virus (VAC), Ricin, Botulinum Toxin A (Bot A), Botulinum Toxin B (Bot B) and Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB). Training/simulant assays and test powders are available to demonstrate how to properly use the assays and reader.

Smiths Detection is the sole global distributor of NIDS. NIDS is manufactured by ANP Technologies, Inc, a multi-faceted biotechnology company concentrating efforts in the fields of clinical research, diagnostics and defense-related opportunities.
