The automatic explosive detection system HI-SCAN 10080 EDtS represents the second generation of proven Smiths Heimann EDS technology. The abilities of the EDtS to meet all of the requirements existing within a 100% screening environment will support our position of offering the most sophisticated and comprehensive solution to-date.

The features of this Heimann solution include:

Detection
The EDtS offers the revolutionary approach of combining both physical signatures "Zeffective" (atomic number) and density. The analysis of both these critical elements will allow the EDtS to offer the highest detection rate in its class.

Throughput
Thanks to its detection capability, the EDtS is able to screen up to 1,800 bags per hour – setting a new standard for automated screening technology.

Integration
The EDtS, operating at 0.5 m/sec (ninety feet per minute), has been specifically designed to meet the challenges of integration. The EDtS offers the ability to be integrated into existing or newly designed conveyor systems.

Smiths Detection wins $20 Million in Contracts for Security Equipment at Qatar’s New International Airport

Multi-level screening solution used for outbound baggage, X-ray systems for checkpoints

Wiesbaden, Germany, June 25. 2009 - SMITHS Detection today announced contracts totalling more than $20 million to provide automatic explosives detection equipment and checkpoint X-ray security solutions at Qatar’s New Doha International Airport (NDIA), currently under construction. The security system integration project is scheduled to be completed by late 2011.

More than a dozen Smiths Heimann   HI-SCAN automatic explosives detection x-ray screening systems will be integrated into the state of-the-art baggage handling system to scan both check-in and transfer baggage at NDIA.  Smiths Detection equipment was chosen because of its outstanding system performance and image quality.

In co-operation with local agent Qatar Security Systems, Smiths Detection also won a contract to supply and install over 150 X-ray inspection systems used at NDIA checkpoints for cabin and oversize baggage screening.

Stephen Phipson, President of Smiths Detection, said: “We are delighted to have been selected to help protect this important new airport and anticipate that these contracts are only the start of Smiths Detection’s involvement as the NDIA expands in phases, eventually to handle around 40 million passengers a year.”

The Qatar contracts are the latest in a series won by Smiths Detection. Its 100% hold baggage screening technology is deployed in major international airports in Dubai, India, Scandinavia, Spain, and Germany.
