Smiths Detection launches specialist X-Ray scanner for cars
Compact footprint and well-proven image technology allows easy use
Wiesbaden, Germany, November 26. 2012 - Smiths Detection today launches a low-energy X-ray scanner to meet increasing market demand for a system best suited to detecting explosives, drugs, stowaways and contraband hidden in cars, light motor vehicles and mini buses.
The CIP-300 uses a 300 kV X-ray source – lower exposure than that of a large cargo scanner – allowing drivers and passengers to remain seated in their vehicles. Where local regulations prohibit this “drive-through” configuration, an optional conveying system allows the inspection of the unmanned vehicle.
Mal Maginnis, President of Smiths Detection, said: “This next-generation, low-energy scanner is outstanding in combining high quality, reliability, ease to operate and versatility. It clearly fills an important gap in customer requirements”
The CIP-300 can typically be deployed wherever the need for increased security is required and the deployment of high-energy equipment is not suitable or possible. The combination of a compact footprint and simple configuration offers an affordable and adaptable system that can be applied to a wide range of operational areas. These include border control points, airport entries, critical infrastructure, military facilities and ports & borders.
Using Smiths Detection’s expertise in advanced imaging technology, the CIP-300 features advanced image representation, including material discrimination and a variety of evaluation functions. This provides the best possible overview of the vehicle and its contents and a detailed image of the vehicle chassis increases its ability to detect illegal materials.
